After finishing traineeship, he worked in the Laboratory of Clinical Cardiology of the Russian Center for Atherosclerosis at the Research Institute of Physico-Chemical Medicine, where he studied the antiatherosclerotic action of various drugs. At the same time he was consulting in the clinic of the Russian Center for Atherosclerosis and worked in the cardio-resuscitation department of the City Clinical Hospital No. 6.
In 1994 he was invited with a course of nephrology to the Department of Therapy, Cardiology and Functional Diagnostics at the Teaching and Research Medical Center of the Russian Federation Presidential Administration, where he initially worked as an assistant, then as an assistant professor and eventually as a department professor. He defended his doctoral thesis on the topic “The functional state of the endothelium (hemostasis, vascular tone, genetic features) in patients with ischemic heart disease.”
In 2013 he headed the newly created cardiovascular center (primary vascular department) at the City Clinical Hospital No. 51.
He is actively engaged in research work. A number of D.A. Zateishchikov works is devoted to the study of the physiological and genetic characteristics of the athlete’s heart. Currently, he is the head of a scientific direction devoted to the study of the atherosclerosis and arterial hypertension genetic aspects, also he is the head of thirteen successfully defended Ph.D. dissertations and, moreover, he oversees the implementation of candidate and doctoral theses performed on the basis of the City Clinical Hospital No. 51 and the City Clinical No. 17. He conducts studies of drugs used in the treatment of acute cardiac failure, long-term management of patients after myocardial infarction, unstable angina, in patients with hypertension, atrial fibrillation, including studies conducted in the framework of international multicenter studies. A number of studies conducted under the direction of D.A. Zateishchikov is devoted to the genetic aspects of the pharmaceuticals action. He is the co-author of about 400 publications, including foreign publications. He repeatedly spoke at congresses of the European and Russian societies of cardiology, scientific and scientific-practical meetings and conferences.
He is chairman of genetics, pharmacogenetics and cardiovascular diseases sections and a member of the urgent cardiology section presidium of the Russian Society of Cardiology, a member of the European Society of Cardiology, the European Atherosclerosclerotic Society, and the American Heart Association.
In 2012 D.A. Zateishchikov joined the board of the Society of Emergency Cardiology. D.A. Zateishchikov is the chairman of the Committee on the Control of Drug Use in Athletes (“Therapeutic Use”) in the Russian National Anti-Doping Agency RUSADA and a member of the disciplinary committee of this organization.
