In 1974 she graduated from the Pavlov First Leningrad State Medical University. In 1974-1976 she studied in clinical residency in surgery, from 1976 to 1992 she worked as a resuscitator in the clinic, as a senior laboratory assistant at the chair of departmental surgery of the Pavlov Medical University, and as a senior researcher at the Central Scientific Research Laboratory responsible for the development of surgical methods for treating heart diseases. In 1986 she defended her thesis in the specialty 14.00.27 - surgery on the topic "Features of the early period after jejunal shunt in patients with obesity and hyperlipoproteinemia.” From 1992 to 2006 T.V. Vavilova held the positions of assistant, assistant professor, and professor at the course (then at the chair) of clinical laboratory medicine of the Pavlov First Leningrad State Medical University.

In 2004 she defended her doctoral thesis on specialties 14.00.46 - clinical laboratory medicine and 14.00.44 - cardiovascular surgery on the topic "The system of hemostasis in patients with mechanical artificial heart valves." In 2006-2011 she headed the course of clinical laboratory medicine of the department of hospital therapy of Mechnikov St. Petersburg State Medical Academy; in 2011—2013 she worked as a professor at the Chair of Clinical Laboratory Medicine of the Mechnikov North-West State Medical University. Numerous times she underwent training in the specialty (2007 - 2012) and pedagogy (2008, 2011) in educational institutions of St. Petersburg and Moscow. She has certificates in the field of "clinical laboratory medicine" and "hematology". She went through the introductory probation in the laboratories of the United States (Atlanta, 1994) and Sweden (Karlstad, 2005). T.V. Vavilova is a board member of the Schmidt-Kudryashov All-Russian Society for the Study of Thrombosis, Hemorrhages and Vascular Wall Pathology, a member of the laboratory council at the Healthcare Committee  of the St. Petersburg Administration, a representative of St. Petersburg (an affiliate member) in the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry (IFCC) and in the European Federation for Laboratory Medicine (EFLM).

Research interests: the study of the molecular mechanisms of thrombotic events, early diagnosis of pre-thrombotic conditions and monitoring of antithrombotic therapy.
