In 1977 L.V. Stakhovskaya graduated from the 2nd Moscow “Order of Lenin” State Medical Institute named after N.I. Pirogov in the specialty "General medicine". From 1977 to 1979 she was a resident physician, and from 1977 to 1982 she was a postgraduate student in the Department of Neurology, Faculty of Biology and Medicine. In 1984 she defended her thesis "Clinical variants of syncopal states." In 2006 she defended her doctoral thesis “Transient global amnesia (clinic, diagnosis, prognosis).

The main area of practical and scientific activities of L.V. Stakhovskaya is vascular neurology, problems of epidemiology, prevention, therapy and stroke rehabilitation. She is the author of more than 300 publications (articles - 210), including experimental work, clinical studies, guidelines, reviews, a monograph and chapters in textbooks for university students and residents, scientific and practical manuals for practioners.

Stakhovskaya L.V. is the First Vice-President of the National Stroke Association (NSA), a member of the Presidium of the All-Russian public organization to promote the development of medical rehabilitology "Union of Russian recreation therapists", a member of the FBM Council of RNRMU named after N.I. Pirogov. She is a deputy chairman of the dissertation council №6 of RNRMU named after N.I. Pirogova and a member of the Attestation Commission of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.
