The founder of the school, the main scientific ideology of which was and still is a reconstructive direction in vascular surgery. A.V. Pokrovsky was one of the creators of domestic synthetic vascular prostheses and he was among the first who introduced them into clinical practice. For the first time in the country, he and his students analyzed the clinical results of the domestic drug “Rheopolyglukin” use and showed its high efficacy in various diseases of the arterial and venous systems. He defended his doctoral thesis on the topic "Surgical treatment of aortic coarctation." A.V. Pokrovsky was one of the first to actively study and widely promote the relevance and immense social significance of the surgical treatment of patients with chronic cerebrovascular insufficiency. A.V. Pokrovsky owns more than 700 works and 16 monographs.
