In 1980 he graduated with honors from the Medical Faculty of the First MMI named after I.M. Sechenov, then completed training in clinical residence and traineeship at the Department of Nervous Diseases. In 1986 he defended his PhD thesis “The functional state of the spinal centers in patients with acute cerebral circulation violation”, in 1993 his doctoral thesis "Hemodynamic disorders in cerebrovascular diseases and ways to correct them". Since 1985 he has been working at the Department of Nervous Diseases, first as a research assistant, then as an assistant professor, since 1994 as a professor. Since 2012 he has been performing duties of the head of the Department of Nervous Diseases and director of the clinic of nervous diseases at the First Moscow State Medical University named after I.M. Sechenov.

The scientific work is devoted to cerebrovascular disease, prevention of ischemic stroke, cognitive impairment of vascular genesis, dizziness and nonspecific back pain. He actively participates in international scientific research, including multicenter randomized trial. Under his leadership 10 candidate dissertations were defended. He regularly gives scientific reports and lectures for doctors on topical issues of neurology.

He is an author of more than 250 scientific and pedagogical works.
